What has ACE done for you lately?
Here’s what we’ve been up to in October!
In this issue of “What has ACE done for you lately” – a monthly roundup of what we have accomplished and what we are currently working on - we highlight our campaigns in the workplace, healthcare, arthritis community and research.
Congratulations to Catherine Hofstetter!
Arthritis Consumer Experts, together with the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada, Canadian Arthritis Patient Alliance, Canadian Spondylitis Association and Patient Partners, is proud to recognize Catherine Hofstetter as the winner of the Qualman-Davies Arthritis Consumer Community Leadership Award. The award was created to recognize one person’s contribution to helping all Canadians living with arthritis to be heard in decision-making processes that affect millions. That’s what Ann Qualman and Jim Davies did as early pioneers in arthritis advocacy in Canada. Their tireless and selfless efforts helped millions of Canadians.
A successful business owner living with rheumatoid arthritis, Cathy has been an arthritis advocate for seventeen years championing the patient experience, promoting more effective treatments and healthcare policies, and motivating and mentoring consumers to become involved in research decision-making and positive reform of the healthcare system.
Cathy is a dedicated and passionate arthritis advocate who approaches her many roles with intelligence and a good sense of humour. She knew and has been inspired by the many achievements of Ann Qualman and Jim Davies, and like them, she bases her activities on the premise 'that those who are affected by a decision should help make that decision'.

Arthritis Consumer Experts and the Arthritis Broadcast Network (ABN) celebrated World Arthritis Day on October 12. World Arthritis Day (WAD) is celebrated every year and provides a chance for people and organisations from around the world to join together and raise awareness of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. ABN’s social media channels featured submissions from the WAD’s Vision 2043 competition. The competition asked people to submit their answers to one simple question, that is: “Living with a rheumatic or musculoskeletal disease can make day to day life challenging…what one thing would make it easier?” Congratulations to the global winner, Pavlina Pejkovska of Macedonia.
ACE is always looking for ways to collaborate with our community. Do you have any ideas to increase awareness for arthritis in the upcoming festive season? Connect with us at info@jointhealth.org.
