Early Symptoms of Autoimmune Arthritis: A Patient-Centered Research Study
Participate in this study to help develop and maintain a new equation for change in rheumatology
The International Foundation for Autoimmune Arthritis (IFAA), with the help of the Spondylitis Association of America, Lupus UK, Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation, and the International Still’s Disease Foundation, have created a study called the “Early Symptoms of Autoimmune Arthritis: A Patient-Centered Research Study”.
The purpose of the study is to develop and maintain a new equation for change in rheumatology. According to the research, early detection + early referrals + early diagnosis + early treatment = better chance to combat unnecessary, irreversible damage and elevate the chances for remission in autoimmune arthritis. The study hopes to address improper identification of early symptoms that may correlate with a delay in diagnosis.
For the purpose of this study, primary autoimmune arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, primary Sjögren’s Syndrome, and adult onset Still’s disease. Researchers hope to develop a comprehensive and consistent Early Symptoms Patient Model (ESPM) for the forms of autoimmune arthritis listed above. You are eligible to participate if you meet the following criteria:

You are eligible to participate if you meet the following criteria:
- A licensed practitioner has diagnosed you with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, primary Sjögren’s Syndrome, and/or adult onset Still’s disease. Multiple diagnosis of any disease listed above does not affect your eligibility.
- You experienced the onset of the first symptoms that brought you to the doctor, which led to your diagnosis, after 1994. If you are uncertain about your qualifications, please email tiffany@ifautoimmunearthritis.org.
- The onset must have started at age 18 or over as this study will only analyze adult onset and diagnosis.
- You initially were diagnosed with undifferentiated connective tissue disease/spondyloarthropathy and this was changed to one (or more) of the 6 diseases included in this study.
