Hijacking cell surface carbohydrates to monitor disease progression and suppress inflammation in axial spondyloarthritis

In this episode of Arthritis At Home, Ellen Wang, Programs Coordinator for Arthritis Consumer Experts, speaks to Dr. Landon Edgar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. His team was awarded a Ignite Innovation Grant from the Arthritis Society to track and stop spine arthritis using carbohydrates on immune cells. Dr. Edgar and Ellen discuss his unique trajectory from his training in chemistry to his post-doctoral work examining carbohydrates in the context of immunology. Dr. Edgar shares the role of carbohydrates as a possible dimming switch on immune cells to turn them on and off. Huge thanks to the Arthritis Society for their funding in support of this cutting-edge research.
