The “Arthritis is cured! (if you want it)” national awareness program along with the arthritis community is “hitting the street” to debunk myths and change Canadians’ perceptions of the effects arthritis has on our communities, our families, and our lives.

Arthritis Consumer Experts and The Arthritis Society, with the advice and support of Canada’s arthritis community, launched a 12-month national arthritis awareness program across Canada in the fall of 2009. This national program is composed of two phases:
  • Phase One – a national and regional public and consumer outreach program, which started in mid-October and will run until January 2010; and
  • Phase Two – a national and regional healthcare professional outreach program that will begin in May 2010 and end in September 2010.
Phase one of the national and regional launches of this program has involved connecting with Canadians by staging a street presence in several key markets: Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Halifax, and Vancouver. Our next and final location will be Ottawa, where we will be unveiling large billboard-sized banners in high-profile, downtown locations. Ambassador Teams will be present at the site of the banner locations, handing out brochures and greeting pedestrians on downtown street corners.

Arthritis Consumer Experts and The Arthritis Society encourage you, your family members, friends and colleagues to participate on the Ottawa “Arthritis is cured! (if you want it)” Ambassador Teams. Your support is essential.

Please help us out by:
  1. Volunteering to be an Ambassador for this exciting and unique program for raising arthritis awareness in Canada.
  2. Communicating this opportunity to your family and friends.
The plan is to have teams of two to three Ambassadors, who will volunteer for a minimum of one morning shift (7:30 am – 9:30 am) or one afternoon shift (4:00 pm – 6:00 pm). Ambassadors are encouraged to volunteer for more than one shift and, if interested, for more than one day. As part of the Ambassador Team program, each Ambassador will receive a branded hooded sweatshirt and toque, an orientation via teleconference, and a script with talking points to help them answer questions.

Here is the Ambassador Teams schedule for Ottawa:

January 26, 27, or 28
Shift #1: 7:30 am – 9:30 am
Shift #2: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

If you, your family, friends or colleagues are interested in helping us spread the word about arthritis and in meaningfully supporting the nearly 4.5 million adult Canadians living with the disease, please email us at ambassadors@ArthritisIsCured.org and we will get back to you with further information and to confirm your participation.
